It was about a little over a year ago that my daughter Emma decided she wanted to spend a few months in China during her junior year at Wellesley College. A part of me thought it was a great idea, another part hoped the idea would go away, like the fleeting thought she had of getting a Hello Kitty tattoo, and she'd never leave her college campus where I can easily get to her in under two hours. And thus began the classic pull and tug of parenthood - letting them go, keeping them close and living your own life without them there.
